The Assistant Director works closely with the Program Director, school administrative staff, teachers, custodians, and after-school site staff to ensure the smooth operation of the program. Will support the operation of the program and the site in the absence of the Program Director from the program site..

COMPASS School and Community based Afterschool Programs  - Brooklyn, NY

The Content Specialist designs, implements, and oversees high-quality enrichment activities in assigned content areas (such as STEM, literacy, arts, sports, or leadership) that align with DYCD COMPASS goals, Positive Youth Development principles, and the program curriculum. The position provides coaching and supervision to Activity Specialists and Group Leaders, monitors lesson quality and participant engagement, ensures compliance with DYCD and program standards, and collaborates with the Program Director to continuously improve program outcomes.

Develops and leads specialized enrichment activities in a designated content area—such as STEM, visual and performing arts, sports, health and wellness, leadership, or financial literacy—that promote youth development, creativity, and skill building in alignment with DYCD COMPASS goals. Unlike an Instructor, the Activity Specialist provides subject-matter expertise and delivers hands-on, project-based learning experiences rather than focusing on academic instruction or homework support.

Provides academic instruction, homework assistance, and targeted educational support to help participants strengthen literacy, mathematics, and other core academic skills while reinforcing classroom learning. The Instructor collaborates with school-day staff and program personnel to deliver structured lessons, monitor student progress, and create a supportive learning environment that promotes academic achievement and school success.

COMPASS School and Community based Afterschool Programs  - Brooklyn, NY

Works under the direct supervision of adult Group Leaders, Instructors and Activity Specialists to assist in setting up, delivering, and breaking down STEM, literacy, and arts projects. May also provide help with homework help or tutoring to younger elementary or middle school students. Will support group leaders, instructors and activity specialists in supervision of children to Help monitor children during transitions, snack times, playground recreation, and dismissal to ensure physical safety.
