Youth Worker

Job Type: Part-Time
Compensation: Starting at $15 Hourly
Program Overview:

COMPASS NYC - IACRL program mission is to empower its youth, in part by supporting those skills and lessons learned during regular school hours, and in part by supplementing those areas of development not regularly provided during the school day. Especially, we seek to engage our youth in interactive, project-based learning that utilizes new and existing educational models to stimulate interests, build self-esteem, and encourage self-reliance and independent thinking. Our education initiatives furthermore center on creating enjoyable activities within safe and nurturing environments, with a focus toward positive youth development.

COMPASS NYC - IACRL Programs:

  • Provide tools for youth empowerment and development

  • Provide enjoyable activities in safe, nurturing environments

  • Offer highly interactive, project-based initiatives

  • Foster independent thinking, self-reliance and self-esteem

  • Reinforce core values, skills, and lessons provided in school

  • Implement new and existing education models for best-learning outcomes

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Teacher/Group Leader staff to work towards collaborative implementation of activities

  • Keeps safety of children as first priority by ensuring supervision of children's daily academic and physical activities in effort to foster appropriate behavior

  • Assist in supervising and executing program based academic projects, enrichment and recreation

  • Attend required meetings and staff development trainings as required

  • Maintain accurate attendance, dismissal, surveys, evaluations, and proper reporting as required

  • Effectively communicate with other staff, parents and  all individuals connected with the program

  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor or branch executives

Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate or GED ; Some College credits preferred 

  • 18+ years of age

  • Have the ability to work with peers, engage youth and coordinate communication between immediate supervisors and parents

  • Be highly motivated 

  • Posses basic computer skills

  • Proficiency in Math, English, some Science and have good writing skills

Note: All COMPASS/SONYC positions require Fingerprint, SCR and Medical clearances to work with children
