SYEP Project-Based Learning Activity Instructor

Job Type: Seasonal Part-Time, July through August
Program Overview

The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides New York City youth ages 14 and 15 with Project-Based Learning Activities and ages 16 to 24 with Paid Summer Employment for six weeks in July and August. Participants work in a variety of entry-level jobs including:

  • Government Agencies

  • Hospitals

  • Summer Camps

  • Non-Profits

  • Small Businesses

  • Child Care Facilities

  • Senior Centers

  • Sports Enterprises

  • Retail Organizations

Specific Job Responsibilities:

  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning experiences

  • Develop lesson plans and materials for career pathways and workforce readiness training sessions and present training programs in a clear and concise manner that is relatable to young adults

  • Attend job related training/workshops

  • Accompany participants on all off-site trips while maintaining appropriate staff to student ratio

  • Observe and evaluate student's performance and development, provide feedback

  • Communicate with administration/supervisor regarding participant engagement, attendance and supportive service needs

  • Select and develop teaching aids such as handbooks, visual aids, computer tutorials, field trips, sector-focused activities, and reference material to support curriculum design and implementation

  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students

  • Maintain classwork in individual participant file

  • Must be creative and motivating to ensure all program goals are met along with good participant attendance

  • Maintain a professional attitude and manner that reflects the high standards of the program you serve and represent

  • Assist in SYEP program operations

  • Able to meet daily/weekly deadlines in a timely manner
